Music has been a vital part of Russborough’s history since the 18th century, with its Music Room designed for superior acoustics. For the Beits, music was central to life at Russborough. Sir Alfred, a talented pianist, installed two grand pianos—a Steinway signed by Ignacy Jan Paderewski and a Blüthner. He took great pride in showcasing them to visiting musicians.
Russborough played a key role in Ireland’s classical music scene, hosting world-class performances as part of the Music in Great Irish Houses series. The Beits welcomed renowned artists such as violinists Kyung-Wha Chung and Tasmin Little, and pianist Krystian Zimerman. Derek Hill’s painting Music After Dinner captures the spirit of these intimate concerts.

Beyond live performances, Sir Alfred curated an extensive music collection, spanning opera, classical, jazz, and musicals, including works by Wagner, Donizetti, and Harry Belafonte. His passion for opera extended to the Wexford Opera Festival, where he was a long-time supporter.
Music remains a cherished part of Russborough’s story today.
